Chino Valley Jogger runs mile with rabid fox, locks in trunk

A jogger in Chino Valley, Arizona was attacked by a rabid fox, but that’s just the beginning of her incredible story.

On Monday, Michelle Felicetta was on a forested trail on Granite Mountain in Northern Arizona, when a fox crossed her path. She says she knew the animal was rabid when it lunged at her feet.

The fox plunged its teeth into her toe, leg, hand and arm in a wild and vicious attack.

Instinctively, Michelle tells KPNX-TV she grabbed the fox by the neck, and with it still locked on her arm, she ran about a mile back to her car. Once at her car, she pried open its jaws, wrapped it in a sweatshirt and threw it in the trunk. Then she drove to a Prescott hospital.

An animal control officer was also bitten while removing the fox from the trunk. But did not let it get away. Testing showed the fox was in fact rabid.

Michelle is now undergoing a series of five vaccinations over the course of the next few weeks. The animal control officer that was bit is home on medical leave and unavailable for comment.
